Information:
Lorenzo Alvarez Gil began his career as a guitar maker in the 1940s, initially working alongside his older brother Juan Alvarez. Both brothers started as cabinet makers but transitioned into guitar making, greatly influenced by their friendship with the renowned luthier Marcelo Barbero (1904-1956). Barbero provided them with mentorship, advice, and introduced them to the work of Santos Hernández. The brothers also worked with Anselmo Solar Gonzalez. These connections profoundly impacted their craftsmanship.
Lorenzo eventually opened his own workshop, where he worked until his death. His work remained true to the teachings of Marcelo Barbero and Santos Hernández, earning him a reputation as a guitar maker of the highest level. Throughout his career, Lorenzo not only created guitars but also trained other luthiers.
