La Gitana is a brand name of Thomas Knatt, who began making guitars in 1964. He studied instrument making and acoustics with David Rubio, Karl Roy of the Mittenwald violinmaking school, and Dr. Carleen Hutchins.He makes mostly classical and flamenco guitars. He has published papers in the Catgut Acoustical Society Journal, Guitar and Lute, and Guitarmaker and taught over 75 lutherie students.
